Custom NSW number plates allegedly referencing October 7 Hamas attacks slammed on Sunrise

A “tasteless” custom NSW licence plate allegedly glorifying the October 7 Hamas attacks has been slammed by a Sydney business leader.

Speaking on Sunrise, Amanda Rose, founder of Western Sydney Women, took aim at the custom plates reading OCT7TH — which some believe reference the date of the attacks.

The plates, spotted on a white Ford Ranger in Sydney, were reportedly registered six weeks after the terror attacks, in which 1200 Israelis were killed.

MyPlates, that charge $499 for custom plates, received a complaint on January 23 about the plates, The Daily Telegraph reported.

NSW Roads Minister John Graham said the registration of the vehicle would be cancelled within a week.

MyPlates said it would review its complaints process.

Jewish community groups have condemned the plates — believing it to be a reference to the October 7 attacks.

Joining Nat Barr and Basil Zempilas for Hot Topics on Thursday, Rose slammed the provocative plates, saying they distracted from the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East.

“I think we need to educate society to grow up, really,” Rose said.

“Whether it is a number plate or something else, this type of number plate is tacky — (it’s) tasteless — not a fan.”

Rose said she believes instead of highlighting a number plate, we should be highlighting the loss of life from the war.

“The fact we are highlighting a number plate — we should be highlighting the people who have been killed — throughout this war and the innocent families being attacked,” she said.

“This stuff (like the number plate) takes it into a different direction, and also we’re giving someone a platform here, they are going to think they are famous now.

“We don’t want that. We want it to be about the innocent victims and say ‘what can we do to fix this altogether?’, we need a ceasefire.”

Zempilas questioned if the number plates were a reference to the deadly terrorist attack.

“Do we know, in fact, that is what that number plate is about? How do we know it isn’t someone’s 21st birthday?” Zempilas said.

He said if the plates (and date) are not related to the terror attacks, he saw no problem with it.

“If that’s somebody’s birthday, then that’s somebody’s birthday. If that’s what it is, something as innocent as that, I don’t think you can legislate (against it).”
