Katerina Vafeas struggled with her weight for years. Then the Melbourne woman shed 32 kilograms with one simple meal plan

These days, Katerina Vafeas calls herself confident and happy.

But just two-years-ago, the 27-year-old Melbourne woman was struggling with her weight, trying all kinds of diets.

At her mother’s suggestion, she tried Sarah Di Lorenzo’s 10:10 Plan, and shed a whopping 32kg in just six months.

Joining Nat Barr and Matt Shirvington at Brekky Central on Thursday, Katerina spoke of how she overcame her nerves to start the new lifestyle plan, and became fitter and healthier.

“I was really unsure whether I wanted to start it or not. But spur of the moment, I said ‘why not? I have nothing to lose’. Once I started, I’ve never looked back,” Katerina told the surprised hosts.

Katerina explained she quickly became familiar with the easy-to-use program.

“To get started, it was a bit difficult — although, once you do get the hang of it, you just get that momentum,” Katerina said.

“You just want to keep going because you see the weight coming off, you feel a lot better, especially if you combine it (the meal plan) with exercise,” she added.

The 10:10 Plan is a 10-week meal plan “aimed at helping you lose 10 kilos and keep the weight off the healthiest way possible”.

Di Lorenzo writes that it is focused on a “health plan” — not short-term dieting tricks.

Joining Katerina on the Brekky Central couch was Julie Banham, 51, who also been yo-yo dieting for years.

The Lake Macquarie mother-of-three knew she had to change her life, after suffering debilitating back pain.

Julie admitted she struggled with complicated diets before finding Di Lorenzo’s plan.

“It was easy, simple, relatable —the food was fresh and easy to prepare,” Julie said.

“I loved the fact it had no processed food in it. It was just so easy to keep on track and all I’ve done is follow it every day, every week, and walk.”

The NSW grandmother said sharing photos of her food to the Sarah Di Lorenzo Facebook Group also kept her motivated, making her feel supported and accountable.

“I put on a photo every day of what I ate (in the Facebook community), so instead of keeping a diary, I kept a photographic diary. My food kept me accountable, and motivated,” Julie said.

“Also, once I saw how it inspired people, I kept doing it to inspire others.”

The women combined lost almost 60kg.

Sarah Di Lorenzo was delighted by the life-changing transformations achieved by the two women.

“Honestly, I’m sitting here, I have goosebumps. I am so proud,” she said.

“This is why I do what I do. Hand on my heart. I want to teach people how to lose weight and keep it off for life.

“I want to teach people a confident relationship with food. I want to move on from the whole dieting world and just get them into that healthy mindset — including exercise, water intake, and minimising alcohol.”

Di Lorenzo said she revised the plan recently, including three more chapters, and added that it was suitable for anyone of any age or gender.

“The 10:10 Plan is for everyone — It’s for all shapes, sizes, ages, and genders,” she said.

“I revised it to the 10:10 Plan because it is not a diet — I am (promoting) a way of life that achieves long-term success in health and wellness.”

Di Lorenzo finished by saying she added some tips and tricks to keep followers motivated in the revised edition.

“(It’s about) making the 10:10 a part of your life moving forward,” she said.

“You know, work and travel, and a few more tips and tricks to keep people on that trajectory to live fabulous, healthy, gorgeous lives.”
